Astoria Events has many talented vendors lined up for this sunny weekend!

Saturday and Sunday June 27th and 28th.

Stop by "Summer Lovin" outdoor market in Astoria22-09A 31st street right under the N/W train near the corner of Ditmars Blvd, between Subway Sandwich and the AT&T store. The market takes place in the newly renovated walkway "Astoria Walk".The market is only 2 blocks away from the San Antonio Festival located on Ditmars Blvd and 35th street.

Soap That Makes Scents Super Special!

Astoria Spring Fling 2009!

It was with GREAT pleasure that Soap That Makes Scents took part in the Astoria Spring Fling 2009 Craft Event. About 40 designers were there (many of whom were Etsy sellers), hawking everything from handmade bags, to vintage jewelry, to children's clothing, wire sculptures, and Greek pastries.

I took several photos, so I'm going to split this into two blog posts. Here are a few photos below of how my table was set up:

Every seller was allotted an 8ft table and up to four chairs (which the event planners so graciously provided). Table sharing was allowed as well for those who wanted.

At this angle, you can see Blood Orange, Sparkling Green Apple, Oh Honey Honey and Sandalwood Rose (on the risers) and a few other goodies!

The place was spacious, with a lot of room for traffic. Table placement was assigned to give everyone the best advantage (and planned carefully so no one was near any direct competition!)

I got this great plexi-glass display case in a trade with another Etsian a couple of months before my show---this was the first time using it and it worked beautifully to showcase my Body Souffle Soaps and Solid Perfumes.

Another first for Soap That Makes Scents...carrying our lipbalms at shows. Normally, we sell them only online but this time wanted to see how well they'd do in person, so I found some great fold-up display cases, printed out a label of each flavor (there were 24 flavors in total), and arranged them at the far end of our table. They were a hit, incidently with the MEN! I asked one fellow what sort of flavors he loved the most--he'd purchased 6 of them but remarked he'd buy all if he had the means--and his blunt answer was "whatever the girls like"...LOL

Now there's an opportunist for you!

I was able to catch a quick snapshot of the mandolin player who volunteered to strum a few tunes at the event. I'd never heard the sweet songs of a mandolin before---very, very soothing.

I have loads of other photos--and I'll be putting them up in a few days to show you other tables, buyers perusing, etc. so stay tuned!

How did my show go? Glad you asked! Excellent, actually, despite persistent rainfall AND having to stand directly under the air-conditioning vent for 7 hours. There were approximately 40 other sellers there (many of whom were from Etsy, and almost all of whom were handmade artists) and traffic was consistent..it helped, also, to be so close to the subway, but I think if the weather were better perhaps even more shoppers would have stopped by.

I do have some photos for you---will be posting them shortly!

Weekend Plans

Just a quick note to let you all know that Soap That Makes Scents will be at the Astoria Spring Fling 2009 show in Astoria, New York. This event takes place on Sunday May 3rd at the Cretans Association Omonia convention hall, and will feature about 40 other vendors.

This is a huge, huge event--one of the biggest I'll do this year, with over 10,000 people in attendance at last year's show.

I'm Baaaaa-aaaa-ck!!!

Back from Toronto, Canada, that is. The weather left a little bit to be desired---it was "warm" by Canadian standards, I suppose---but not as lovely as the days were when I came back to New York.

Lots of pictures to share with you, which I hope to get up within the next day or so. Caught a bit of a cold yesterday (I think due to the sudden climate change), but all is well on this front.

Next week I'll be busy putting with final preparations for my huge show coming up in Astoria Queens on May 3rd, and expecting lots and lots of goodies in the mail...screw tins for my solid perfumes, lip balm tubes, new fragrances (Cantaloupe...MMMMM), and some great mini notecards I bought on Etsy.

Will post the photos in the next couple of days---promise!
